you all know, I'm studying to be an art teacher. I want to teach the highschool level because I've always felt that they need that outlset for expression. I always thought of myself as the cool art teacher, who ends up teaching a class full of students that come from very bad backgrounds.

Because of my art class, and me spending extra time after school with them, they will all straighten out. The girls that keep getting knocked up will finally learn to say NO. The boys who are in gangs will leave those gangs and start studying so they can "make something of thelseves." The racist kids will actually start getting along with everyone because they realize they're all just people. And the angry kid who brings a gun to class will back down and change his/her mind about shooting everyone in class including the teacher.

All because of my art class.

But that's not going to happen is it?

The girls will continue to get knocked up because that's probably how they were brought into the world. The boys in gangs will stay in gangs because they have no other forms of guidance at home. The racist kids, will start getting nazi tattoos to make it clear who they are and who they hate, because "white power" dominates even in public school text books. And the kid with the gun, will follow the president's example of "if this place is not run the way I want it, if you don't do what I want you to, I will begin air strikes." And moments later, on the news, The knocked up girls, the gangster boys, the nazi amatures and the kid with the gun will all be dead. It will be all over the news.

They school will morn, the parents will morn, michael moore will make a movie about it. A few months later, life will go back to normal. 14 year-olds getting knocked up, gangster kids breaking into cars to find things to sell so they can buy drugs. Kids dying of brain damage from too much alcohol. Other kids overdosing on God knows what. Another teacher in some other school gets killed, but thats in a different state so why should we care? Everyone is o.k as long as pictures of Brad and Angelina's baby are all over the place, the O.C gets picked up for another season.

Sometimes I wonder, is any of this worth it?
